Words Of Encouragement
Isn’t it
interesting that what we say to someone and how we say it, has the ability to
change the entire trajectory which they may go in? If you have watched the way
a child responds to the way someone speaks to them and what is said to the child,
how those words could set the direction the child will go. You will in some
cases see their direction changed for the remainder of their life,
seeing them do great good in their generation. It will cause you to consider
the way you speak, or it should.
Encouragement
is one of the great things you can give someone. A quote from Wilfred A.
Peterson from the book “The Art of the Living Treasure Chest” published by Simon
& Schuster has a quote that is believed to have actually happened, whatever
the case, it has a great truth which comes from a time of great pain in the
life of Abraham Lincoln.
The powerful
quote is this, “Words of encouragement fan the spark of genius into the flame
of achievement. Legend tells us that Lincoln’s dying mother called her small
son to her bedside and whispered, Be somebody, Abe!”
I like this
quote because of a great truth it uncovers. “Words of encouragement” is
something all of us need. Spoken words are necessary to build people up, they
need to “hear” words that build them up and cause them to do great things. By
saying something encouraging, you may amazed at how much further they will go
in life.
If the story
is true with what Abraham Lincoln’s mother said to him, look at the seed she
planted in her young son. Consider all of the obstacles Lincoln overcame
because of the words possibly spoken to him by his mother. He failed numerous
times in his life, but was finally elected President. Because of what he
accomplished as President, it changed the trajectory of the country. The words
you say, matter.
What you say
to someone can change their life, either for the good or the bad. Let your
words build up. People will always will remember how you spoke a kind word to
them that changed their way of thinking, thus changing their life.
Consider what
Proverbs 25:11 says, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold, in settings
of settings of silver.” Another scripture to encourage you is found in the book
of Proverbs as well. Proverbs 15:23 states, “A man has joy by the answer of his
mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” If you see someone who
needs an encouraging word, speak it!
