To Be Washed With Hyssop

We have heard the term in church on occasion when the pastor would refer to hyssop in an account connected to King David when he would ask for forgiveness. King David would ask God to wash him with hyssop.    Why did David ask God to wash him with “hyssop?” Was it for healing and to be purified? Let’s take a moment to examine this. In Bible typology, the Hyssop symbolized purification. In the Book of Leviticus, hyssop was applied together with other substances to a person who had recently been healed from a skin disease and even used to purify a house that had previously contained mold, this was an outward use. As to a deeper use, we can look at a few sources and we find, for example, from the Bible Almanac stating that the common hissup is a sweet smelling plant of the mint family.
