The Critical Work of Ministers

Acts 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

For those of us who are in ministry have been given an important reminder from this verse. We are to give ourselves continually (on a continuous basis) to a prayer life which will allow us to be effective in the area of ministry to which we have assigned by God. We need to actively carry out the ministry of the Word, to see lives changed, so they can carry out the purpose God has placed in them. The purpose of we who are in ministry is to bring those who are in our care to maturity. That is why we study and prepare. Take a look at,

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting (maturing) of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying (building) of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children (inmature), tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

We don’t do all the work of the ministry, we prepare those in the body to accomplish it. Whether in the marketplace or in the area of ministry. We have to understand that we must train the body of Christ to come into maturity because the enemy is seeking to deceive us, so the ministry of the Word will be made ineffective in lives He is attempting to change. We are in a battle. We must understand that our role as ministers is critical.
